This week was a total snooze-fest. No one was good. No one was memorable. In fact, writing this blog post is almost as painful as watching this week’s shows. Regardless, here we go. This week’s bottom three:
-
Lisa: Cutie pie should not sing Kelly Clarkson. (Ouch!)
-
Ace: Cute pie should probably quit singing altogether.
-
Katharine: She’s actually one of the most talented singers, but was stupid to choose Christina Aguilera and then try to sound like her. (Key word=TRY).
Anyhoo, Lisa was kicked off this week. She is so darn cute and rather talented. She’ll be just fine when she gets out of high school. (Damn, I am old.)
Next week’s theme is country. OMG, does this mean Bucky will stay for another painful week?
Here are the headlines catching my attention as we head into the weekend:
It will be a good weekend of LTV watching — and hey, maybe even some TV without the laptop! My TiVo is full of goodies including Boston Legal, Big Love and The Evidence.
The highlight of this week’s American Idol was Barry Manilow. Okay, I am not a “Fanilow” but I was happy to be reminded that he is one talented dude. (And it’s no wonder that one of the first songs I can remember is Copacabana.)
Okay, so we finally got rid of Kevin. The kid is adorable, but he cannot sing. And he was getting a little too big for his uber-small britches. It had to be Kevin or Bucky – both are average at best. Lisa (the third in the bottom three) is darling, but her performance this week was weak.
Other thoughts:
-
Ace is losing steam as he rides the cuteness wave. (His big brother is just as cute, and I’m too old for both of them.)
-
Chris remains my favorite. (I can actually see myself buying his music.)
-
Katharine was awesome this week.
-
Pickler is annoying as she play the stupid card. (I would smack my daughter if she played stupid on purpose.)
-
Mandisa was great, as usual, and I was happy to hear Simon recognize her performance as “sexy.”
Okay, enough drivel for one day. AI is mindless, addictive and perfect laptop television.
Every once and a while, life throws you a surprise. Thanks to my clients at Yahoo! for making today memorable. Tom and Katie made an appearance in Sunnyvale and here are photos to prove it!
I caught "The New Adventures of Old Christine" last night — and apparently I am not the only one.
Good show, funny, TiVo-able, great laptop television.
Singing a Stevie Wonder song is a tall order! Even if I could hold a tune, I would shy away from taking on that challenge. Alas, the contestants on American Idol did just that this week, and now one has to go home. This week’s bottom three:
-
Ace Young: too cute for words, pretty good singer too
-
Lisa Tucker: great talent, love her
-
Melissa McGhee: enjoy her Melissa Etheridge-style voice
Melissa was sent home. She was pretty good, although we all knew she would not be the ultimate winner. So this also means that Kevin (that song made me cringe) Covais stayed in the competition. So did Kellie Pickler, and her performance was nails on a chalkboard. Oh well, we got to hear Stevie himself, so all is good in the world.
The best part of this week’s show (without a doubt) was explaining the show to my mother-in-law who had NEVER seen the show before now. It was sort of like explaining why you would need to brew coffee every morning…
Here are some headlines worth noting. Some are touching, some are funny, and some are just sad.
Back to work…
Check out these blogs:
Let me know if there are others to add to my Bloglines!
The Sopranos is back with a vengeance. I set my TiVo for an east-coast feed, but couldn’t press play until The Kid was asleep. (It goes without saying that The Sopranos is too violent/wrong/scary for kids.) Here’s my review of the Season Six premiere:
Welcome back, Tony! I watched every moment – from the pre-party coverage to the credits – and I was so glad to see you. It was refreshing to see the edgy show back on the small screen. I found that all of the characters are back in extreme form. Carmella had a perfect mob-wife ‘do, and Christopher wore a sweet gray sweat-suit.
What I loved:
-
Who let Janice reproduce? (This will make for great television and will make me feel like a superior mom!)
-
The theme song is so good. That song will never get old!
-
AJ is a piece of work. (Again, makes me feel like a good parent.)
-
Paulie Walnut’s hair has not changed a bit.
-
Sil’s hair has not changed a bit.
-
Who doesn’t want to see Bobby in a conductor hat?
-
Writers are setting up for compelling storylines.
What I didn’t buy:
-
Doesn’t Carm know Adriana is dead? C’mon!
-
I don’t buy Tony and Carm eating sushi. Seriously, Tony eats raw fish?
I got hooked on The Sopranos before I was a mom. Twenty-one months (and one kid) later, The Sopranos remains the ultimate escape for this working mom!
Until next Sunday…
