Okay, I am feeding the hype, but Sopranos returns in three days! According to the Newsweek story "Married to a Mob" the season premiere is a doozy:
A murder, a suicide, a maiming, a fatal heart attack and a shooting — in the first episode alone.
More great Newsweek articles found here and here. I’m going to bake a tray of ziti, uncork some Chianti and tune in after a painful 21-month hiatus!
Tonight was not just about laptop television. It was do-laundry-clean-the-house-get-ready-for-your-mother-in-law’s-visit television. Even so, it was another week of American Idol, and we say adieu to four more contestants:
1. Alya Brown: pretty good singer, overachiever, not good enough to win anyway
2. Kinnik Sky: I generally liked her, but her performance this week was painful
3. Gedeon McKinney: I actually like this guy; he will be great on Broadway
4. Will Makar: this cutie pie (think Peter Brady) is too soft for Hollywood
My favorites remain the same: Chris, Katherine, Lisa and Taylor.
If you missed tonight’s show, we also saw a horrific performance by last year’s runner-up Bo Bice.
I recently added Project Runway to my laptop television repertoire, and today was the season finale. News flash: Chloe Dao pulled off an upset and was named the winner of the second season of Project Runway. Apparently I am not the only one who was surprised:
Even though Chloe Dao was the choice of the judges, she was not the choice of the viewers watching Project Runway. Bravo conducted a poll during the show asking viewers “Which of the top 3 designers do you think should win?” Right before the judges selected Chloe as the winner, Bravo showed the results of the poll as 45% for Daniel, 35% for Santino, and only 20% for Chloe. — Reality TV Magazine
I have to agree with Bravo voters; my vote and heart belonged to Daniel. While Chloe’s designs were absolutely beautiful (and perhaps more “traditional” runway), I thought Daniel’s collection was both elegant and wearable. I would happily wear anything he designs, especially the second outfit (the gorgeous navy button-down dress). Santino’s collection was unique and beautiful, but just not my style.
One question: Does couture work with a diaper bag?
Only TiVo and a laptop can make a 3-hour awards show bearable. Here are my thoughts from this year’s Oscars:
Favorite Oscar Moments
-
Jon Stewart was clever and witty as usual.
-
George Clooney wins the Oscar for best supporting actor, and Stewart says “I’m very proud of him. It’s the kind of thing that gets a fella laid. How much more can he have?”
-
Petite Dolly Parton takes over the stage. She is 60 years old and keeps up with the youngins. (I wish she would have won.)
-
I loved the spoof ad for Reese Witherspoon. (Let’s not take these people so seriously, they are just actors after all.)
-
Itzhak Perelman’s music is unparalleled.
-
Meryl Streep and Lilly Tomlin presenting the honorary Oscar to Robert Altman was classic.
Horrific Oscar Moments
-
Why can’t people say thank you and get off the stage? I am so sick of the holier than thou speeches.
-
Keanu Reeves is so boring.
Looking Good
-
-
Jennifer Aniston, breathtaking as usual
-
Rachel Weiss is a beautiful pregnant woman… makes me forget how much I hated The Mummy Returns
-
-
Ziyi Zhang from Memoirs of a Geisha, she is a stunning woman
-
Salma, Salma, Salma… man, that woman is sexy
Looking Bad
-
The dude with the tux coat and blue jeans
-
FIVE days until The Sopranos returns. I thought about watching the last few episodes of last season to remember who is who and who did what… but then I discovered Jake Coyle at AP did all the hard work for me. (Hey, I’m a mommy blogger! Get off me!)

I don’t have time to write for "Cell Phone Television."
But I do love my TiVo and am happy about this news!
Check out this great site that allows 24 addicts to follow Jack Bauer around LA as he solves all the world’s problems. (For my geeky friends, this is a great mashup.)
Other cool mashups are in this Cnet article. (Note: Laptop Television already wrote about the Sopranos mashup.)
Tonight is my weekly date with Jack!
It was a good week for AI fans. We ditched the attitude and saw the stars shine. Here’s a recap of last week’s shows with my totally (un)necessary commentary.
GONE:
1. Brenna Gethers: Goodbye to you, your attitude and your average talent.
2. Heather Cox: Cute, average and completely forgettable.
3. David Radford: Cute and boring.
4. Sway Penala: More interesting than others, but not talented enough.
My favorite – hands down – is Chris Daughtry. The dude can rock and is king of the Dawg Pound!
Close second is Elliott Yamin.
My message to the girls: Unless you ARE Mariah, Celine or Bette… you should NEVER sing Mariah, Celine or Bette. Give us a break, and sing songs that you are capable of singing. Leave the power ballads to the women who have the lungs to sing them properly. More importantly, THE SOPRANOS debuts in one week! (Tony, I am counting the days.) Recap of the Oscars on the way…
I spent two days in NYC for a work-related trip. I left hubby and the kid behind to hobnob with PR folks from all across the country. Here are highlights (and commentary) from the trip:
1. Fly JetBlue: We left on time and landed early. Better yet, we watched TV the entire flight. Hey, it’s just like I’m at home – I opened the laptop and watched 5 hours of Project Runway (killer laptop television!) Our flight attendant was super-crabby, but overall, the experience was positive.
2. Barca 18: Fantastic tapas restaurant in midtown. Salud!
3. Sleeping: I left the baby monitor at home and sprawled across the entire bed!
4. Starbucks: Baristas in NYC are much nicer than the baristas in California. Who would have expected better service in Manhattan?
5. PR Week Award Ceremony: Donned the floor-length gown and hit Tavern on the Green. What a freaky (cheesy) place. I expected more glitz and glamour, but I had a good time.
6. Big Hugs: Nothing compared to the hugs from the kid (and hubby) when I arrived back home! There is nothing like a weekend spent at home with your family!
It’s a busy week for Laptop Television. Here are the headlines that grabbed my attention:
1. Rob Lowe is back on West Wing: Perfect way to close this brilliant show.
2. Meg Ryan on Oprah: Meg talks about her children, break-up … does she mention her face-lift?
3. The American Idol machine keeps running: It’s all on TiVo for this weekend.
4. Carol Burnett joins Desperate Housewives: She plays Bree’s stepmother … love it!
