LTV Headlines

Wow — big headlines today:

I’ve had a super-busy week at work, so I am *way* behind on my shows.  It will be a West Wing, Boston Legal, Sopranos, Big Love, Scrubs, Oprah sort of weekend.

American Idol Recap Ten

Where do I begin?  All I can say is this:  Thank God for Chris.  Here is my take on the all of the performers:

  • Katharine:  Obviously, Kat does not read LTV.  ;-)   Unless your name is Whitney, Mariah, Celine or Bette, DO NOT sing Whitney, Mariah, Cline or Bette.  Good try, but there is only one Whitney Houston.  (Insert your favorite “whack” joke here.)
  • Elliott:  Great performance.  I do not know Donnie Hathaway, but it sounds like I should check him out.
  • Kelly:  Ouch.
  • Taylor: Hmmmmm… didn’t do it for me.
  • Paris: Pretty good darn good for a 16 year old.
  • Chris: Loved it.  He is so cool and so damn good.

But the best is yet to come.  Andrea Bocelli performs tomorrow night, and another Idol-wanna-be leaves the stage.

TiVo News

I love TiVo and want to make sure everyone reads this good news: New TiVo boxes let users record two shows at once.

LTV Headlines

LTV is back in action!  I just returned from a short vacation in Florida.  We took our child to meet her great-grandparents in Florida.  It was a great trip — hot and humid, but heartwarming.

Back to blogging.  Here are the headlines that caught my attention:

I have to admit that my AI prediction was wrong.  Ace is gone, and Kelly continues to sing.  Oh well, I will watch tonight’s show with Andrea Bocelli (one of my all-time favorites).  Curious to hear how Chris can tackle another week of love songs.  I may have to dial once or twice…

American Idol Recap Nine

Well, I have to say that tonight was most impressive.  And Rod Stewart is pretty cool.  (I started laughing when he said that Elliott was born the year “Da Ya Think I’m Sexy” was a #1 hit.  1979?  Oi vey!)  I was happy to hear the contestants singing the classics opposed to Hot Legs and Infatuation.  Here’s my take:

  • Katharine blew everyone away, but I really enjoyed Chris, Taylor and Elliott.

  • Even Paris and Ace were good.

  • Sorry, Kelly.

  • Ace, love the suit (I love a man in a good suit).  Hated the hair.  It’s like Samson wearing a ponytail.  Does not work.

My prediction:  Goodbye, Kelly.  It’s been real.

Tonight’s 24

Yahoo! has an exclusive clip from tonight’s show. Props to Pop Candy for sharing.

American Idol Recap Eight

We are down to eight contestants, and I am certain of two more things: One, It’s unfair to ask wanna-be singers to sing Freddie Mercury.  Two, I was honestly surprised by the performances.  They actually were better than I expected (but my expectations were pretty darn low).

Here’s my take on this week’s performances:

  • Bucky: If you read LTV, you know that Bucky is not my favorite.  But I didn’t hate his rendition of Fat Bottomed Girls.

  • Ace: Dude, he gets my vote for the leather pants alone.

  • Kelly: Thank heavens I have TiVo so I could fast forward through the pain.

  • Chris: Still my favorite… even in eyeliner.  (Can you say Dave Navarro?)

  • Katharine: Liked it.

  • Elliott: Loved it.

  • Taylor: Entertaining.

  • Paris: Hated the bad-girl look, thought the performance was average.

The bottom three: Ace, Elliott and Bucky.  And Bucky goes home… at least he heads home on a high note!

Next week… Rod Stewart.  (Let’s pray no one sings "Da Ya Think I’m Sexy.")

LTV Headlines

Here's a big spoiler alert for 24 fans: Jack Bauer<br />
survives this season. And he's in for at least three more days of hell.

Some good news out there:

Stupid Girls

Pink

If you missed today’s Oprah, set your Tivo to catch a replay.  Rock-star Pink was on the show blasting today’s starlets who make a living by playing dumb.  Key take-aways:

  • Teenage girls are emulating today’s pop princesses by being too thin and acting dumb.
  • Being "stupid" means that you are being less than who you are… and who you can be.
  • You can be sexy AND smart.

LTV says: Hallelujah!  If you want to be sexy, be sexy.  But don’t act dumb, don’t let others take advantage of you, and be true to yourself.

Yes, some are saying that Pink is being hypocritical.  I think she is provoking an interesting conversation… one that needs to happen to protect our little girls.

JK Rowling

… and here’s another reason to lover her!  Read this post by Whitney at Pop Candy:

"The Harry Potter creator has posted a message on her website addressing the wealth of super-skinny, extremely social and stunningly stupid celebrities on the scene today. "I’d rather (my children) were independent, interesting, idealistic, kind, opinionated, original, funny — a thousand things, before ‘thin,’" she writes.

Without naming name, Rowling calls out "celebrities whose greatest achievement is un-chipped nail polish, whose only aspiration seems to be getting photographed in a different outfit nine times a day, whose only function in the world appears to be supporting the trade in overpriced handbags and rat-sized dogs." Hmm … wonder who she’s talking about?"
