Project Runway

Now that “So You Think You Can Dance?” is over, I have time to write about my other Wednesday night passion: Project Runway.  (Okay, I love Rock Star too, but I have to pick and choose what appears on LTV!)

Loved, loved, loved the concept of this week’s show. The designers created outfits for the “everyday woman” – and the models happened to be the designers’ moms and sisters.  Of course, the designers were not designing for their own family members, which made the show even more interesting.

Shockers:

  • Jeffrey’s mom is refined and beautiful!
  • Jeffrey’s rude behavior toward Angela’s mother.
  • High school pictures of Kayne.
  • Laura has 5 kids… and another on the way! (She must be crazy!)

Highlights:

  • Hearing Michael admitting that he is a mama’s boy.
  • Seeing Vincent’s dress for Uli’s mom. (Beautiful!)
  • Hearing Heidi Klum and Uli’s mom speak German. (Our Oma is from Berlin!)
  • Being wowed by Michael’s design for Robert’s sister. (I would wear that dress.)
  • Loving how Robert’s sister worked the runway!

Lowlights:

  • Hearing the designers referring to size 10 women as “larger women”.

Until next week… carry on!

LTV Headlines

Here you go:

Monsters Inc.

Traveling leaves little time for blogging.  Traveling with a 2-year old leaves little time for anything.

We made our 10-hour trip better by dragging along a DVD player.  Quite simply, it’s the best way to keep a 2-year old quiet on the plane.  (Plus, my kid is not quite 2 so she flew on our laps!) We flew a couple weeks ago, and we watched a lot of Elmo’s World.  Good for The Kid… got really old for Mom. So, I needed to get some movies that were good for a 22-month old… and tolerable for me.

We watched Shrek — which was a huge hit — but it was Monsters Inc that stole the show.  The Kid loves it!  (She calls is "Monster Movie".) Great movie for a kid since it’s beautifully colorful, has great characters, and has an appropriate plot line for my little girl. I like it for The Kid since there are no Barbie-like characters, the dialog is not dumbed-down, and the she can remember her favorite parts.

DVD on a plane is not laptop television, but it’s pretty cool to have that much time to laugh with your kid.

Benji Can Dance!

Tonight was the grand finale of this season’s So You Think You Can Dance, and Benji waltzed off as the winner.   Benji was one of my favorites from Day One, so I was thrilled to see him win.  I fully expected Travis to win tonight, but am happy with the outcome.

Tonight’s Highlights:

  • Contemporary dance with Travis and Heidi (the bench!)
  • Black Mambo with Benji and Heidi
  • Allison and Ivan dancing to Annie Lennox
  • Donyelle’s departing speech (she is a stud)
  • Not having to see Travis’s goofy haircut anymore
  • Hearing Ramalama (Bang Bang)… yeah, it’s on my iPod

Tonight’s Lowlights:

  • Lame-ass lip-synching
  • Missing “Put the Needle on It” by Benji and Donyelle (my favorite dance)
  • Mary Murphy, her screams and her hand-puppets (insert eye-roll here)

Seriously, who will see the tour with me and pay good money for great seats?!  The tour will be in Oakland on September 15…

LTV Headlines

Here are headlines today (just enough for my working-mom attention span):

20 Good Years

I flew United Airlines this week, and was lucky enough to catch a preview of the new John Lithgow/Jeffrey Tambor sit-com called “20 Good Years.”  (This was not Laptop Television; it was Toddler Television.)

I have to say… it was really funny.  I love Lithgow and Tambor, but could not picture them together.  The duo really works. Lithgow showed his “Third Rock” style of humor (and even broke out a Speedo); Tambor broke out his “Jeffrey P. Brooks III” (and was great).  I can actually say that I laughed out loud (and this was an all-day trip with a 22-month-old kid.)

The only character that did not work for me was the woman who plays Lithgow’s daughter Stella. She over-acted the part and was not believable.

I will certainly set my TiVo when “20 Good Years” hits the Fall line-up on NBC.

(TypePad is driving me nuts… sorry for the whacked formatting.)

So You Think You Can Dance?

Wow – what a finale!

Here are the highlights:

  • Benji and Travis’s hip-hop routine.  I suspected Travis had a hot bod, but who the hell thought Benji had a six-pack?
  • Benji and Heidi’s club salsa. It was the best routine of the night, by far, in my opinion.
  • Travis had the best solo of the night.  His technique is amazing (and I am a sucker for a dancer who can tumble!)
  • The finale was hot.  And I agree with the judges – one hundred percent – that Travis dominated that routine.  That performance may have won the contest for him.

Other notes from tonight:

  • I have two more songs to download on iTunes:  SexyBack by Justin Timberlake and Gyrate by "Da Muzicianz feat. Mr. Collipark" (no clue what that all means… I’ll see if the crew at Apple can help me out!)
  • My hubby pointed out that Cat as am amazingly crooked nose.  Anyone else?
  • Sheila, I’m going to say this for you… was Mary Murphy drunk again?

Any guesses who will win it all?  I have to change my prediction and say that one of the guys will take it all…

Goodbye, Natalie and Ivan!

Two more dancers leave "So You Think You Can Dance?" this week.

Goodbye, Natalie. You were my favorite all-around dancer.  And goodbye Ivan. Beyond hip-hop, you could not hold your own.  You are cute — in a nerdy "I-want-to-be-cool-so-I-hip-hop" sort of way.

It’s down to four… Benji, Travis, Donyelle and Heidi.  My (early) prediction?  Cousins Benji and Heidi will win and take Broadway by storm.

Now I need to catch-up on Project Runway (who was kicked off for breaking the rules?!)  Looks like millions of you already watched it!
