Hairspray: You Can’t Stop the Beat

I have loved watching dance all my life, and watching dance with my daughter is a dream come true.  Last week’s  SYTYCD results show featured a routine inspired by Broadway musical-turned-movie Hairspray.  My daughter fell in love with the routine — she says "Mommy, where are the pink dancers? — and then I accidentally deleted the show off TiVo.  So, here’s the clip to for quick and easy reference for all of us:

SYTYCD: Results (and Top 10)

Goodbye: Anya and Hok

Top 10:

  • Dominic, Kameron, Pasha, Danny and Neil
  • Sabra, Lauren, Sara, Lacey and Jamie

Tonight’s Highlights:

Tonight’s Lowlights:

  • Danny and Anya in the bottom 3 again (I would have sent Lauren home, btw.)
  • Will someone please tell me why Lacey wears those ugly tube socks

SYTYCD: Top 12

Tonight was "Making Dinner Television" rather than Laptop Television, but here’s what I caught while I was cooking:

Highlights:

  • Danny and Anya’s jazz routine was great. Loved it!  And Danny finally showed some personality.
  • Sara and Pasha’s dance to Queen’s "Body Language" was awesome; who knew suspenders could be so sexy?
  • Sabre still has the best legs on television.

Lowlights:

  • Mary Murphy’s outfit. Yikes!
  • Those damn tube socks that Lacy thinks are cute.
  • Poor Hok.  He is so cute, even though he is getting in over his head.

LTV Playlist:

Week One: Tambourine by Eve

Week Two: We Will Rock You by Queen (Remix)

Week Three: Let’s Get Loud by JLo (Okay, that’s
already on my iPod)

Week Four: Night of the Dancing Flame  by Roisin Murphy

Week Five: Body Language by Queen

So many headlines, so little time:

SYTYCD: Top 14

I missed my show last week!  I’m happy it’s back and I’m blogging:

Overall impression: I thought it was a lack-luster show. Nothing was worth rewinding and watching again.

Favorite routine: I guess I liked Neil and Lauren’s jazz routine and Sara and Pasha’s swing routine.

Question of the week: Why do the girls wear those retro, knee-high tube socks (circa 1976)?  They were dorky when I wore them the *first* time they were popular.

Factoid of the week: My favorite song of the night "Night of the Dancing Flame" (the Jazz number), which is performed by Roisin Murphy who also sings Ramalama (Bang Bang) from last season’s famous Zombie Dance.
