I was watching American Idol last night, playing Candyland with The Kid, and one of my favorite faces graced the TV screen!
If you are a fan of the Sopranos, you recognized Paulie Walnuts (played by actor Tony Sirico) in a new ad for Denny’s. We even got the famous Paulie Walnuts "look" at the end of the spot!
This I did not know: According to celebrity site Adrants, there is a rumor that Tony was a real mobster back in the 60s and 70s attached to the Columbo family. Bada Bing!
Early this morning, I was trying to get some work done before my daughter woke up for the day. (Oh yes, laptop television with the Today show… and coffee.) My husband came rushing into the room and told me to click on yahoo.com to look at today’s "featured" section. To my delight, I found Shawn Johnson’s smiley face on the front page of Yahoo!
Thanks to the Hollywood writer’s
strike, I have time to clean out my TiVo and watch some old shows. The
other day I watched an Oprah rerun called “Going
Green 101: Resources for your Family.” Oprah’s guests had a call-to-action
to encourage families to change how they live in an effort to protect the environment,
including
Reuse
aluminum foil
Turn
off the water faucet while brushing your teeth
Limit
showers to 10 minutes, use warm water instead of hot water
Unplug
appliances when you leave the house
Turn
down the thermostat at night
Donate
old clothes and shoes instead of throwing them away
Honestly, when I heard these tips, I
laughed out loud. I grew up in a house that practiced each of these suggestions
because we needed to save money, not because we wanted to save the Earth. Wow,
looks like my mom is not a cheap-skate after all, she is an environmentalist
who was way ahead of her time!
Mom, I apologize for all the
eye-rolls and back-talk when you made me rinse out the Ziplock bags so we could
reuse them… especially now that I am practicing what you have always
preached.
I woke up this morning and did the Mom-thing: fed the kid, took her potty, played Dominoes, you know the drill. Then, I took a few minutes to do my thing: grab a cup of coffee, sit on the couch, watch the previous night’s What Not to Wear on my TiVo, and read the news on my laptop. (Of course, reading the news goes from Yahoo! News to TechMeme to WeSmirch.)
I get to WeSmirch and find that Paul Abdul, Randy Jackson and Ryan Seacrest have just unveiled Paula’s new dance single called "Dance Like There’s No Tomorrow." (Click here to listen.) I liked it, as it reminded me of the Paula I loved in high school. Then I found a library of Paula Abdul videos, and I was in heaven!
I spent a good half-hour watching my favorite videos: Cold Hearted,Opposites Attract, Vibeology and Straight Up. It seems I have grown accustomed to the sweet, sometimes air-headed Paula of American Idol that I forgot about her true talent: she is an amazing dancer who really changed the world of music videos. (Okay, I am not too proud to admit that I tried to emulate her moves, especially the Fosse-inspired Cold Hearted video.) Enjoy:
I saw it on Leno, found it on Jib-Jab, had to get the link on YouTube. (Go figure!) Regardless, here’s a great recap of 2007. (Um, way better than the LTV Mom recap):
