OK - I am the rock person - did not see Slumdog until literally, the night of the Oscars. Loved it, but must say as a mom, some of those scenes were really hard to watch. but wow, what a story. So now onto Oscar - which we DVR'd and really, that IS the way to watch it. Wished for less creative editing and more actual clips (seriously, where did the noms end and the "related" clips begin . . . and why?) And really, have to say - hated: Miley's dress, the 5-star love fest prior to the noms in acting cats, seriously show me what they did, can do without the fake admiration and the fact that none of the songs were actually performed? Huh? Loved: that the entire Slumdog cast rushed the stage, Sean Penn's acceptance speech and Hugh Jackman (with Anne Hathaway as Nixon - hilarious moment!)

I agree - I loved the Oscars this year! I watched 98% of it instead of the typical 20%. Loved ... Hugh Jackman, the format of old winners giving the 4 big awards and personal speeches, other awards given according to their place in the production process (screenwriting, adaptation, cinematography, etc. with interesting info on the process), Tom Cruise's promo with Jimmy Kimmel!

Other lowlights ... Adrien Brody's completely ill-prepared speech for Richard Jenkins. OK, so even I didn't know much about Richard Jenkins, but if I were presenting at the Oscars I would not admit that most of my information came from Google. It was uncomfortable to watch. Also, the best song medley ... I thought it was weird at the time that it ALL seemed a big Slumdog tribute. Where was the Wall-E song? I guess it was the one sung by John Legend in the middle, but there were still Indian dancers onstage. I just Googled it (me and Adrien Brody) and apparently Peter Gabriel, who wrote the music and lyrics and was supposed to perform it, canceled "to protest that the songs were not given individual performance time." Apparently, he feels like I did.

P.S. OK, I'll admit (just to Stacy) that my other highlight was seated behind Sean Penn and beside the Brolin/Lane duo! :)

Couldn't agree more about Miley Cyrus's dress -- So terrible! I can't believe she said it was her first choice and that she knew it was "it" as soon as she saw it in the stores!

More like "it isn't" working Miley...

Hugh Jackman has become my newest celebrity crush, because of this year's Oscars. He was so cute!!

Must admit, I haven't really been into awards shows the past few years, but this year's Oscars gave me a new-found appreciation for them! It was such a fun show!

I felt like this Academy Awards was the best in a while. It was nice to see them take some risks and try new things. Agree - I too loved Hugh Jackman and didn't fast forward him at all!

While I did like the personal tributes from the five former actor/actress winners, I have to say I did miss getting to see clips from the movie to show off their "power scenes." I also hoped they hadn't mixed in other (older) movies to the Best Picture montage.

I still want to see Changeling and The Visitor. They are in my queue. ;-)

Thanks for the recap Stacy!

I'm so glad you posted something about this, because I didn't get to see the oscars, and everyone was talking about Hugh Jackman. That was just brilliant. So thanks!
