Activeion: I finally have my “Green Machine”

Activeion: My Green Machine

Activeion: My Green Machine

When I was a little girl, I really wanted a Green Machine to ride around the block with my friends. Do  you remember those funky tricycle-like toys?  I had a Big Wheel that I rode for hours and hours, but those Green Machines looked so darn cool.  Alas, I never got one.

However, a few weeks ago I attended an event with Bill Nye the Science Guy who introduced me to a new kind of Green Machine… and this one is pretty cool too. It’s also environmentally friendly and my four-year-old loves to play with it. I am talking about the Activeion (pronounced Active-Ion) cleaning solution.

Those of you who know me can stop laughing now.  I am not the uber-domestic type and I rarely (never?) talk about cleaning products. (After all, I hired a house-cleaner as soon as I could afford one, and I would lose my mind without her!)  But, I am going to tell you about this particular cleaning product since I believe in its benefits and  purpose.

After both fathers died of cancer within seven short months,  my husband and I decided to do whatever we can to create a clean and green home for our family.  We no longer cook with a microwave, we use chemical-free laundry detergent, we wash with plant-based soaps and shampoos, and we eat organic food whenever possible.  We have tried some “green” cleaning supplies… some good, and some not-so-good. Needless to say, when the folks at Activeion invited the moms from the Silicon Valley Moms Blog to discover a healthier way to clean our homes, we were all ears.

Now, what I am about to tell you will blow your mind. The Activeion will clean your home, and practically eliminate germs and bacteria, using tap water. Of course, it took someone like Bill Nye to explain how it works.  My husband (who, along with Bill, has a degree in Mechanical Engineering) was in love with the concept.  Here’s what I heard:

You fill the container with normal tap water, blah blah blah, electric charges flow through the water, blah blah blah, water grabs dirt, blah blah blah, water grabs germs, blah blah blah, windows are clean without streaks, blah blah blah, your house is clean without chemicals.”

I was sold. Of course, I took an Activeion home and “played” with it. (It lights up green when you use it!) I cleaned everything from my windows to my car to my toothbrush holder. Everything is clean, and there is not a chemical in sight.

So, there’s my pitch. I highly recommend you visit the Activeion Web site and check out the video that explains how it works.  (Trust me, Bill Nye does a much better job than LTV Mom!)

ALSO, amazingly enough, the team at Activeion is giving an Activeion cleaner to one lucky LTV Mom reader!  Please go to the comment section and share your best tip for keeping a clean and green home!  I will draw one lucky winner at random on Monday, June 23.  Yep, one week to share and enter.

You also can click HERE to order an Activeion, and you too can have your very own green machine!

Gosh- you took me from a path on memory lane down with my dream of owning a Big Wheels/Green Machine to realizing that the reality harshness of chemicals “After both fathers died of cancer within seven short months, my husband and I decided to do whatever we can to create a clean and green home for our family.” You’ve got me thinking (and of course wanting to win that pretty little machine) that there are so many areas we do need to change to protect ourselves and our families. I am constantly looking for ways to reduce my eco-footprint and this is another area where I can strive to improve. Great post filled with thought provoking ideas to bring about change.

That looks so cool!!! I’m so interested in trying it out. And I, too, am sold from Bill Nye (we LOVE him!). Staying Clean is a little tough around here with the kids. I’ve been “Green” by using LOC (Liquid Organic cleaner) from Amway. It works well on grease in our Kitchen. It cleans everything from cars to laundry. :) Thanks for the giveaway!

This sounds AWESOME! “Green” is my favorite color…and I’m sure my hubby would love to use this when he cleans;). I, too, am domestically challenged (or at least domestically uninspired!) but this sounds fun enough for me to actually use!!

WOW we also are really trying to be mroe green and we are both fanatical about cleaning! The other day we got a new hardwood floor mop for the hosue and good grief the two of us could not stop talking about how much we LOVED the mop HAHAHA! But this something to assist with the cleaning and is grenn…sooo cool. I think I know what I am getting farsheed for Father’s day!

Wow - rarely do cleaning supplies fire me up but this one truly sounds innovative and cool. I, too, try to buy cleaning products that are environmentally friendly, but the results are always hit and miss, which is frustrating since they tend to cost more! It is refreshing to read about this new offering that DOES work, and is pro-environment, while evoking such fun childhood memories. Thank you Stacy!

Here’s my best TIP for keeping a clean and green home: For window and mirror washing, use old newspapers instead of paper towels. You’ll be using the newspaper twice and will therefore be more environmentally conscious, you can still recycle the newspaper after you’ve used it to clean the window, and it won’t leave white fuzzies on windows. In the olden days, before paper towels, people used newspapers to clean windows. Yes, it leaves black smudges on your hands, but you can always wash it off. Mainly, it works and is more in keeping with responsible stewardship. Try it!

Wow! I’m impressed with your description of this product. I’m intrigued. I would really like to win one! :) My tip for keeping a clean and green home…. let’s see…. it is a great idea and I need to do a better job. Living in Nebraska we sometimes forget about the impact of our carbon footprint.

That sounds like too much fun…cleaning has never been fun…or inexpensive…I’m ready to try…or let Kara give it a go! My tip…baking soda and vinegar…talk about Bill Nye stuff…I don’t use them together:) They work wonders on some of the most frustrating issues. We also had a new air filter added to our home and WOW, what a difference. We only have to rinse the filter once a month and we have had a big change. Our allergies issues in St. Louis have been dramatically reduced. Go GREEN MACHINE! Love ya Stacy! Hugs to everyone!

cool! Love the idea, imagine a toy that inspires Stacy to clean windows. Now there’s something to ponder. We also went/try to be green and switched out almost all our cleaning supplies to Method, Mrs Meyers and Seventh Generation - each works well in certain areas. we’re stuck with laundry detergent though, would love suggestions, but with 2 boys, we need some serious scrubbing. Here’s my “green” tip for outside (if that counts) - use vinegar (straight) to kill small popup weeds in sidewalk and driveway cracks, or after cooking up a batch of corn on the cob, pour the leftover boiling water on weeds - kills ‘em good! We also keep baking soda on hand for scrubby jobs (instead of comet), plus its harmless enough to let the toddler use and feel like a big helper! Again, with 2 boys, training them to learn to clean their own bathrooms is high on my list of maternal duties. Start ‘em young!

@Ann, if you have kids with chlorine hair (and who doesn’t in the summer), go ahead and mix up your tip - create a paste of that vinegar (ideally cider) and baking soda and put it on the kids hair for a moment or two in the bath. Strips out the chlorine!

It really lights up when you use it? Something that’s fun to use AND cleans things too? Count me in! You and LTV Dad look great! Sounds like a fun event.

We started putting our old swag t-shirts to use in place of paper towels for some of the dusting, polishing, and drying, etc. that we would have previously used paper towels for. Like the other comments, vinegar reigns supreme for us too.

Bill Nye is a giant misogynist jerk. He also hates kids.

Hi, I have one and am loving it but it is so hard to believe it is working!!! I feel like it works and feel so good about not using harsh cleaners too.

Found this cool spoof video with the activeion in it - if you read the cleaners claims it goes into “use as directed”, would someone actually clean like that?

    Funny video anyways - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4J17zY8jrHY
