Oh my! That tater tot casserole sounds so yummy. I got so hungry reading your post, especially since I'm just eating a boring ol' salad for dinner tonight.

I love cream of mushroom soup also. Always got to keep a few on hand, jic.

I have to admit, I had never had green bean casserole until I was at least 25. We used to make tuna noodle casserole, with potato chips on top - can't remember if we used the soup or not. I made a GB one for thansgiving but didn't turn out that great, too gourmet no doubt :)

Custard is mine, and soft boiled eggs with toast, which is what my mommy made when we were sick. And mashed potatoes, can't get enough of those. I like pretty much all food, sometimes to my dismay.

It's good to know that even a fancy Cali lady like yourself finds comfort in our midwestern cuisine! I have a feeling I'll be the same way when I grow up and move out of the midwest too.

p.s. I hope whatever was the cause of the need for said comfort food, is now cleared up.

Love you!

Okay, please share your recipe for tater tot casserole. I've never had it and always wanted to try it.

And you are so right, cream of mushroom is the must-have ingredient for any casserole. I once left it out thinking it was no biggie. Now eight years later, Neville still talks about my worst kitchen disaster: the time I made the casserole from hell.

My comfort foods: pocket pies my Grandmother from Arkansas makes, homemade biscuits, and my dad's BBQ.
